Three for Me - July 28, 2010

Posted on 28 July 2010 by Aaron

While there are literally dozens (sometimes hundreds) of new books that hit your local comic book shop every Wednesday - These are the three you can’t miss for the week of July 28, 2010…

Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #4 -

This series has been an example of extremes, often within the same issue. On one hand, you’ve got bat-shite insane Grant Morrison taking Batman on a journey through time, on the other… Well, you’ve got the exact same thing. As we enter the forth issue in the arc designed to bring Bruce Wayne back to the 21st century and I still have no idea what is going on. However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been enjoying the ride. This is the damnable truth that is The Return of Bruce Wayne. Each issue lets you see Batman in an iconic pop culture look (caveman, Solomon Kane, pirate, etc). This week? This week The Dark Knight becomes the Lone Ranger and takes on Jonah Hex! Confused? Me too. Having fun? You bet!

Wolverine Origins #50 -

I am still firmly in the camp that less is more when it comes to Wolverine’s history. I like the idea that he doesn’t know squat about where he comes from, as such, he refuses to let the past define him… While he’s snikt-snikting and drink-drinking his way through Marvel villains (and occasional hero). I am clearly in the minority with this belief, as the existence of a title called “Origins” would suggest. For good or bad, it all comes to an end today as Wolverine takes on his even more shorter fused son, Daken (not to be confused with Dokken, the metal band that hates chicken - Sorry, 10% joke). The title claims this will lead to Wolverine’s salvation, but considering the subtitle for the pending Wolverine #1 is “Wolverine goes to hell”, I’m a tad skeptical. Still, I like a good comic book through down and this one promises to keep the blood flowing!

Time Bomb #1 -

Radical Comics have been putting out some damn pretty books lately. It’s been interesting to watch this company grow and grab more and more talent for their books. It reminds me of the early days of Image Comics (insert age joke here), but without all the  foil-holo-chromo-Robo-foldo covers. This week, Time Bomb #1, written Jimmy Palmiotti & Justin Gray with art by Paul Gulacy hits the shelves. As you fine readers know this site know, I am a huge fan of Palmiotti and Gray. They’ve got a style that simple clicks with readers and know how to take you on a ride for 23 pages. What kind of a ride do we get this time? Time travel. Nazis. Apocalypse. Sweet! july_2010_480
