Runner Runner

A Movie For Online Gambling Fans

Today, there are more people who have played casino games online than those who have actually made the journey to a land-based casino. It’s so simple to start gaming online, especially with so many sites now offering not only welcome bonuses when a player first puts down a deposit, but also giving new players a no-deposit bonus amount of credit when they first register on the site. The no-deposit bonus is the best way to try out games on a site and see if you like it; as you get to play the real money games for free.

Of course, with such a wide range of casino sites to choose from, you can cut down the time you spend researching which site to join by making use of the different casino review sites. Check out this Australian online casino guide which gives full reviews on the most popular casino sites and also assists players to find the best progressive jackpot games, the best welcome bonuses, etc, too.

With so many of us playing online gambling games almost on a daily basis, it’s not that surprising that there’s already been a movie released about online gaming. Runner Runner was released in 2013 and stars Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Gemma Arterton.

Timberlake plays the part of a Princeton student who funds his life through online poker, but believes he has been cheated out of his remaining bank roll by an online poker site based in Costa Rica. As he’s nothing left to risk losing, Furst decides to go to Costa Rica and confront the site owner, Ivan Block (played by Ben Affleck).

Here we see an actor who is mixing his art with real life. Affleck has long been known for his fondness of the poker tournaments, ever since he won the California State Poker Championship back in 2004. He’s also a well-known face at the gaming tables in Vegas and only last month made headlines when he was banned from the blackjack tables at the Hard Rock Casino in Vegas for life, as he’d been caught counting cards. So maybe it’s unsurprising that he took the role in Runner Runner; gambling must be a subject that is close to his heart.

His character in the movie, Block, has got rich quickly by any means possible and when confronted by Furst he sees an opportunity. Block is able to draw the easily-influenced Furst into his circle of trust; offering him a mega-paid job and getting him to enjoy the lavish lifestyle that he has. By doing so, he hopes to ensure that Furst won’t object to some of the darker dealings of Block’s company, Midnight Black.

Furst becomes Block’s right-hand man and soon discovers that everything is not rosy in the Midnight Black garden. He is soon caught between different loyalties and finds he is at risk from various different fronts – including a rogue FBI agent who is working outside his jurisdiction to bring Block to justice as well as local Costa Rican gangsters and the local police force too. His life is complicated by the fact that he has fallen in love with Block’s ex-girlfriend, Rebecca, played by Gemma Arterton.

For anyone who enjoys online gaming, Runner Runner is not a movie to be missed. Once you’ve watched it, playing blackjack or poker online at home, via online casinos that are well-regulated like the ones you find on casino review sites, will feel very tame and secure compared with the goings-on in this thriller’s plot.
